Confidence
Hello Reader,
Self-Confidence is vital in every aspect of our lives, yet many struggles to find it. Self-confidence is meant to be cultivated throughout our lives. Over that time, judgments of ourselves tend to lean more towards the negative than the positive. Sometimes, our life experiences leave us with beliefs that we are not good enough. To let go of personal inadequacy, we must develop trust in our judgment and abilities. Ultimately, self-confidence is your opinion of yourself, and if our opinion of ourselves is positive, we're better prepared for the ups and downs in life. For this reason, you must understand your power, value, and worth and trust your judgment while still acknowledging failures and mistakes and learning from them.
People who lack self-confidence are more likely to stay in their comfort zone, fearing failure and avoiding risk. In contrast, self-confident people understand that they are taking a risk, that a loss is a factor, but they trust themselves to do what is best for them. Stepping outside your comfort zone requires letting go of excuses that keep you from growing and moving forward. And as we take those steps towards confidence, we open ourselves up to a world of opportunities.
You maximize your confidence by gaining knowledge of yourself with support and direction. Confidence is built through listening and understanding ourselves; this self-realization only begins when we inquire about our true selves and the purpose of our lives. Defining your power and knowing your capabilities, skills, and resources provides confidence when independently handling things. When we start to ask about our inner selves and the purpose of our lives, we receive meaningful information that will help us throughout life. Examining your values, judgment, and abilities allows you to determine what is necessary for you and develop the motivation and discipline to act. Exploring these key areas builds confidence and the courage to stand your ground with conflict resolution and purposeful communication.
Purposeful communication highlights your credibility because how you speak will convey confidence and depth of thought. Some examples of not communicating purposeful are speaking too quickly, softly, or using repetitive words or phrases. These examples leave the impression that you are unsure of what you are saying, leading people to be unaware of what you are trying to convey. When speaking to an audience, give people a reason to listen and communicate in a way they understand, encouraging action with the information. Speaking with a commanding tone while being clear and direct is speaking with purpose, additionally, have a clear perspective of what you are trying to communicate. I have my clients use a technique to help them talk with purpose by writing out what they want to say. Doing this allows them to formulate what they want to say, what they need, and how it will be accomplished. You can also receive feedback if you are commanding, clear, and direct. Ask a trusted friend or family member for feedback on your communication. If you are not ready to be on public display, you can video yourself making a presentation or recording before answering a call, then listen to the recording and review.
Another aspect of speaking with purpose is body language. Body language is communication with no words. Usually, body language occurs subconsciously, and 60%-90% of our daily communication is through nonverbal communication. Avoiding eye contact, rolling eyes, displaying impatience, or folding your arms gives off the energy that you are not invested in the conversation. You must be aware of how you are nonverbally and verbally communicating with others to help you get your message across.
Confident people inspire confidence in others: their audience, their co-workers, their bosses, their customers, their family, and their friends. And gaining the confidence of others is one of the key ways to succeed. Continue developing your confidence by stepping out of your comfort zone and getting to know yourself to be capable of speaking purposefully. You feel a sense of comfort when you have done the work needed to handle and are grounded with who you are and what you need and want.
