Value

Knowledge is of no value unless you put it into practice.
— Anton Chekhov

Hello Friends,

Many catastrophic events are happening in the world today, and in some of these events, if we had the proper precautions in place, a fraction of the suffering could have taken place. Which has led me and others to ask, “What is the value of life?” Many of us want to say we value ourselves but then will not take the proper care of our own emotional, mental, or physical being by settling for careers, relationships, and habits that devalue our being. Therefore, it is essential for an individual to determine their definitions of value and worth. Remember that it is not only defining value on human life; it’s acting on that value by making decisions that support that worth. I want to inform those who do not know that economists put a value on human life and value us at an average of ten million dollars per person’s lifetime. So now that there is an awareness that these institutions put a value on your head, shouldn’t you hold yourself accountable for placing some value on yourself? The higher you value yourself, the more you feel empowered and fulfilled. So, let’s get started with the first step to gaining value.

Defining value is the first step to creating value for yourself.  Value can be measured in many ways, such as money, community, health, or character traits, and it takes you to define it and act on it. When we determine our value, we have more confidence to express it and take action on what is best for our being. Take some time today to decide what makes you feel worthy, empowered, and fulfilled in life regarding principles, standards of behavior, and what you view as important. The best part is that no one else can define value for yourself but you! After you have defined your value in life, it is time to express your value in your overall well-being. Establishing value over your physical and emotional health is extremely important because it helps you create boundaries with the outer world that support your inner harmony and eliminates destructive forces that devalue you. Defining and caring for all areas discussed is essential for creating value that leads us toward fulfillment and satisfaction and taking care of our well-being overall.

Now that you are armed with your definition of value, it is time to act on it in all areas of life, and it is time to take control. Take time to determine the areas of life that are not adding to your value and start eliminating them. You may have to research, seek professional help, or talk to others who have a similar experience during this phase. Also, examine the companies you support and invest in. Read the companies’ standards, reviews, products, and how they produce them. Many people opt to buy cheaper goods made by low-paid workers, not realizing that they support the problem of low life value on the worker. These corporations are filled with people who control our resources, which trickle down to the political world. We can no longer be naïve to the fact that we invest in these resources that keep a system in place that defines our value without considering our input. We increase the value of objects by demanding the supply, giving profit to those at the top. I want to ensure that when we change as a majority, the economy will eventually reconstruct itself around the demand for change. When our value isn’t expressed, it creates destructive patterns that hinder humanity’s overall well-being.

Our definition of value explains how we treat ourselves and others. Some of us consider life priceless, and others have reason to value human life. I think the best question to ask is, to what extent will you go to gain the value you solely desire?
